We are Microballistics Ltd, a company registered in the United Kingdom and providing research and experimental development in natural sciences and engineering. Our particular focus is on development of ballistic models and associated electronic products.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments and reviews

When visitors leave comments or product reviews on the site we collect the data shown in the comment or review form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Log files

Microballistics Ltd follows a standard procedure of using log files. These files log visitors when they visit websites. All hosting companies do this and a part of hosting services’ analytics. The information collected by log files include internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamp, referring/exit pages, and possibly the number of clicks. These are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable. The purpose of the information is for analysing trends, administering the site, tracking users’ movement on the website, and gathering demographic information.

Purchase records

Additionally when you make a purchase or attempt to make a purchase through this website, we collect certain information from you, including your name, billing address, shipping address, payment information, email address, and phone number. We refer to this information as “Order Information.” These data are retained in our records indefinitely for tax compliance reasons. We do not share this information with other commercial parties. These data may be reviewed by the HMRC audit.

Data collected by mobile applications

Our iOS and Android application may request access to your GPS location, your camera, and your Bluetooth radio. This is required to provide core functionality of the applications. These data are not passed to Microballistics Ltd in any form.

Our mobile applications may collect crash reporting data (these are anonymised records of what went wrong if the application fails to perform normally). Any personal information is removed from these data. These data are then passed to Crashlytics and Fabric.io services located in the United States. We can then access and review these data to correct our mobile applications. Neither we nor third parties controlling these data can identify a particular user from the anonymised information.

Your GPS location may be passed (with your direct consent only) to third parties to provide additional functionality for the applications. The mobile applications may pass your location, on your request, to weather monitoring services provided by AccuWeather.com to obtain your local weather report. The mobile applications may pass your location, on your request, to Google to obtain geolocation lookup and identify, for example, the city or the country you are currently located in. These data are anonymised. These data are not passed to Microballistics Ltd.

 

Who we share your data with

We share your Personal Information with third parties to help us use your Personal Information, as described above. For example, we use Google Analytics to help us understand how our customers use the website – you can read more about how Google uses your Personal Information here: https://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/. You can also opt-out of Google Analytics here: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. We may also use third party services to perform spam protection checks.

Additionally, if you are a European resident we note that we are processing your information in order to fulfil contracts we might have with you (for example if you make an order through the website), or otherwise to pursue our legitimate business interests listed above. Additionally, please note that your information will be transferred outside of Europe, including to Canada and the United States.

Finally, we may also share your Personal Information to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other lawful request for information we receive, or to otherwise protect our rights.

 

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment or submit a product review, the comment, the review, and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Purchase records are retained indefinitely for tax compliance reasons. We may share this information with HMRC, but only if they request to conduct a financial audit.

 

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
